Yesterday had every reason to be hectic -- It was our first day back to work and school after a long holiday break, we had a couple of grumpy girlies, a doctor appointment and cold, icy weather… But just as things seemed to be headed down the expected path of normal weeknight semi-chaos, something potentially annoying but instead incredibly wonderful happened.
The power went out from 6p.m. until 3a.m.
Sure that meant we “lost” Millie a couple of times (she gleefully tore from room to room in the dark daring us to seek her out with a flashlight -- that child is fearless…), but it also meant that we were forced to basically chuck all plans, tv watching, e-mail checking, kitchen cleaning and instead be fully, completely and totally in the moment.
We read in front of the fire while munching on clementines. We played in Audrey’s room with loads of candles blazing… It all felt very little house on the prairie and very slow and well just a nice break from what we expected.
Which is really the best thing of all, no?

Some Unexpected "Slow"...
The culprit for our evening of candlelight -- Icy branches that fell on the power lines…
