Scenes from The Weekend

Sunday afternoon = sunshine + french press coffee + Devo videos on YouTube with the girlies... a good day, no?

It was inspiring weekend.

Or rather, I was confronted with several inspiring moments, places and people, starting on Friday evening with our friends Lucia and Pete and their sweet girlies Ava and Felicity (actually it started a smidge earlier…more on that later.)

Lucia and Pete are immensely lovely and creative. This was our first visit to their home, and I was totally mesmerized. There was something fantastic and inspiring in every nook and corner – a piece of Lucia’s art, a perfect little vignette, a stack of great books... + They made us an amazingly yummy dinner (Bouillabaisse, salad, panna cotta + homemade pizza for the kids.) It was an altogether lovely way to kick off the weekend (and I was inspired to rethink my entire house ;-)

On Saturday we went to a birthday party at the Science museum, and I was inspired by my own, well… uptightness (yes, I realize that’s not a real word.) I was so tightly wound the entire time that I walked out to the car after the party vowing to lighten up. I’m realizing I’m not doing so well in my efforts in magical parenting and it took a mildly chaotic (but still very fun) 3-year old birthday party to remind me of that and re-inspire my efforts.

Late Sunday afternoon was spent watching Devo videos (we skipped over the racy content of course...) with the girlies on YouTube (man it's easy to get sucked into YouTube.) It occurred to me that I will have failed miserably as a parent if my girlies grow up thinking Mark Mothersbaug is just that goofy guy that draws pictures on Yo Gabba Gabba. The Devo viewing lead to Blondie and then to the Beatles (all roads inevitably lead to the Beatles with my girlies.) Their love for music inspires me endlessly.

And finally I was inspired by you guys…actually this started Friday afternoon (per my first paragraph) when I started reading your “6 Things” comments on my last post. Bryan had to come see what was going on as I was (apparently) gawaffing from my office. These were the best comments ever.

I am seriously amazed, impressed, in awe of, grateful for and fond of you guys. I’m just sayin…

Wedding Dress Cost

Is it worth using a wedding dress pattern for casual wedding dresses? There are many advantages to using a pattern and even more advantages to wearing a casual dress at the wedding. A pattern can make the exact color, fabric, cost, length, cut and style of dress a bride wishes. The casual wedding dress has the advantage of being comfortable, inexpensive and stylish. Using wedding dress patterns to make a casual wedding dress will save money, time and give the bride the exact dress she wishes.

A pattern is a blueprint used to create a piece of clothing. One of the benefits of using a pattern is it costs very little. Another benefit is the ability to use any fabric for the outfit. Because patterns are so cheap, it's easy to mix and match skirt styles with bodice and sleeve styles. The ability to choose fabrics, sleeves, bodice and skirt makes patterns a great investment.

Wedding dresses cost thousands of dollars and aren't always everything the bride wishes. While some dresses may strike a chord in a woman's heart, there is always something they wish would be different. It's a little easier to find a dress when the choice is a casual style; however, there is a very limited resource when it comes to dresses which are perfect for the wedding day. Even when a couple has a casual wedding a bride will want to have a perfect dress. The perfect dress is a lot easier to build than it is to find at department stores.

Wedding Dress Cost

When dissecting the anatomy of a dress, you'll find the fabric, color, bodice, skirt and sleeves. If a bride wishes to have a certain style of each, to flatter her curves, she would have to search long and hard to find the exact style she wants. If, however, she buys two or three different patterns, she can have the exact dress made to order. As a bonus, she can also choose the fabric and color for the dress. A really great bonus if it's a beach wedding. A pale blue wedding dress made of silk with a corset bodice, flare skirt and capped sleeves might be very difficult to find. But a pattern with a corset dress, another pattern with a flare skirt, and yet another with capped sleeves can be formed into the perfect dress. Each pattern cost is about ten dollars, and a seamstress might charge around fifty dollars to make the dress. While this cost is low, the perfect dress is priceless.

Snowing Snowies

The plan was to get to the Fox Lake area before dawn, which meant getting up early this morning to meet Mark and Dottie Johnson at 5:00 a.m. Once on the road, we traveled northbound on Highway 151, then County Road AW west, and finally south on Brave Road. The weather became increasingly dreary –  gusty winds, snow, and some drifting on the roads; digiscoping would be challenging under such conditions!

As we turned west onto Lake Emily Road, I immediately spotted a Snowy Owl perched atop a telephone pole along the right side of the road. We approached slowly, being mindful not to get too close. Using my car door as a blind, I set up my digiscoping rig and took several exposures plus this video. The owl seemed pretty comfortable with our presence until another car drove past us; the gorgeous predator from the arctic took flight and vanished into the falling snow.



Turning north on County Road A, it didn’t take long for us to find a second Snowy Owl (note different forehead markings). We spent some time scouting around and came across several flocks of Snow Buntings, Lapland Longspurs, and Horned Larks. Our last Snowy Owl observation was in 2006 a few miles north of Middleton along Pheasant Branch Road, so this was an uncommon treat for us!

gw bingung, sumpah bingung bgt..
gw bingung sekarang apa perasaan gw buat dia..
aduuhh, gw jadi pengen mundur nihh..
mundur aja kali ya ???? toh juga DIA ga mau respek ama gw :(
daripada ntar gw jadi SAKIT HATI , mending mundur aja deh sebelum terlambat.. tapiii kan dia blom punya pacar.. harus kah gw MUNDUR..

gw takut aja ntar kalo gw terlalu deket ama dia, temen2 nya " cie2'in " dia.. ntar dia jadi ga mau sms'an, chat atau bahkan WTW-an ama gw lagi di FB..

gw ga tahan deh kalo gini teruss, mau sampe kapan ????
gw juga kan bukan siapa2nya dia, jadi ngapain juga gw hrs ngarepin dia..

gw benci ama diri gw sendiri, kenapa kalo gw lagi deket ama orang lain, selalu aja berpikiran kayak gini??!!!
aahh gila, kenapa harus ada yang kayak gini sih di hidup gw ????

tapi gw yakin, suatu hari nanti TUHAN bakalam ngasih yang terbaik buat gw :)

Buckets of Snow

It's snowing buckets of snow today in the city. Schools are all closed but yes, I am still at work. So I snagged a couple of photos on my phone during the day.

This is my lovely walk, remember? I couldn't go my normal shortcut up the stairs because they were covered.
Even the sidewalks were covered so I had to walk on the street:

I love that we are right next to Waldorf Astoria. Actually, my company owns it which makes it nice when we have our Christmas parties there:
