If It Doesn’t Look Like a Kitchen or Feel Like a Kitchen, It’s Still a Kitchen, Right…

Maybe it’s because I’m not so much a "master chef" (an understatement perhaps), that I’m really drawn to a kitchen that doesn’t actually feel like a kitchen…My ultimate dream would be to have a fireplace or little couch and chair in our kitchen, but given the configuration, it’s not even in the realm of possibility. I’m constantly employing other tactics in order to impart a sort of “inappropriateness” to the room that might sufficiently trick the eye into thinking you’re not actually in the kitchen. I currently have a few lamps on the various countertops, a little oil painting in a gilded frame and an antique kilim rug found on eBay in front of the stove. My current fixation is finding some sort of groovy chandelier for over the island.

In the meantime, I keep a little file of “non-kitchen” kitchens to drool over like this room pulled from Domino. I love the mix of the clean modern space with the ornate chinoiserie paper, but my fixation is more likely a result of the fact that I might have an awful hard time convincing Bryan to go for that glam metallic wallpaper in any room -- much less the kitchen…
