Designer Spotlight: Seema Krish

Seema Krish, hard at work designing her fabrics.

One of my clients is asking me to help her with throw pillows to freshen up her living room space. She found Seema Krish's pillows and instantly fell in love. I went to her website, and fell in love too. Seema, a designer born in India, came to America and studied at FIT, and returned back east to start her textile studio, Azure. She designed for Calvin Klein and Donghia among others and reflect a traditional textile technique, but with modern designs.
The pillows are available in a natural linen or 100% cotton. They are also available in many sizes. I love this graceful design: Malabar Hill.
I adore the little tassel on the corner of each of these pillows. Mahalakshmi.
The Chowpatty is one of my favorites. I love the chevron patter. It's clear that these are beautiful but look at the detail below.

WOW. Each design is made with handblock technique and embroidered. Swoon.

Oh, maybe this one is my favorite. These look like leaves, and they're available in a red/pink color too! This one is called Worli.
This one's patter reminded me of water and sure enough, the design was inspired by the ocean. Each pattern has a little inspiration story behind it. Breach Candy.

They also make quilts! Imagine the work that goes into these; it's exquisite. Quilts/Throws HERE.

Word on the street/her website is that they will be selling this incredible fabric by the yard. I hope this day comes very very soon. Everyone knows how much I love to make pillows and my clients are requesting that I make them pillows from her fabric! Check out her website and her story HERE.

Designer Spotlight: Cheryl Tague

Cheryl Tague is an amazing designer that I just discovered yesterday (thanks Amie). Her style is traditional with a fresh kick to it. She uses many textures and colors in her interiors, and integrates antiques amazingly well. Besides absolutely falling in love with her style, she is very inspirational, as a person. She started out in the finance world, but left it and graduated from The New York School of Interior Design (where I go)! Ever since then, she's been working in London, Chicago, New York, and all over the US.

This is from an incredible project that Cheryl worked on in Chicago. How much would you love to have an entrance to a courtyard like this? Or at all?

CAN'T BREATHE. I love this so much--the distressed wood, the light streaming in, the white china collection.

Living room. Check out the white paneling on the walls. She uses a lot of neutrals but they don't seem to get lost in themselves.

This is the entry foyer I believe. Isn't this floor classic? I love how she used the washed out wood paneling and then a neutral wall paper above it.

In the dining room, she uses more beautiful tile work on the floor and then mixes it with fun, bright fabric on the dining chairs with a round dining table.

Now, we move to Bronxville. I've been seeing this striped rug a lot lately and I super love it. Of course that map above the desk (which is perfectly accessorized) is making me insane with how much I love it.

This is the other side of the room. Every detail seems to be taken care of in these interiors. A column in the corner to add height and then a painted plain moulding really finishes off the room.

A child's room. I love yellow for a child's room. It's gender neutral (what a strange term in this situation) and you can keep the room yellow as the child grows! Also, I really want that cow.

In the bedroom, she makes a typical display of photographs seem edgy by arranging them asymmetrically; which reflects the asymmetrical ceiling (with exposed beams!).

I think her interior in Aspen, CO impressed me the most. I have seen too many cliche western interiors with exposed wood, Navajo rugs, and deer heads. This interior was calm, natural and beautiful.

Gingham bedspread, a display of mini antlers, and the antique bench at the foot of the bed are only a few things that I love about this room.

I LOVE how, though there is a lot of wood, it is antique and you can see the imperfections in it. I love this little scene with the rough heavy blanket and the smooth little apples. Adore.

Another lovely scene that you might walk by on your way to the bedroom after a few runs down the slopes. SWEET.

This bedroom is SO mountain chic. The patterned bedspread and then the big fur lying on top of it? Are you kidding me? L. O. V. E. Again, her color scheme is also so beautiful and surprising.

This kitchen is so cute. I love all the natural elements contrasted with the polished nickel hanging lights.
Clearly, Cheryl has amazing taste. Her furniture choices are not typical, and that's what makes each interior special and surprising. What do you all think? Definitely something to look forward to when(ever) I finally graduate from NYSID. The amazing pics from Cheryl's website are taken by the talented Kate Cordsen.

Designer Spotlight: David Driscoll

One of my favorite designers, David Driscoll has recently broken out on his own! He is currently based in Manhattan but has designed interiors on Nantucket, Rhode Island, and Palm Beach. His style is sophisticated, but simple and chic. He uses a lot of neutral colors which makes his interiors very cozy and livable. As he is very innovative, he also offers a redesign service! He will take your space and basically give it a chic makeover but keep your original pieces--just make them better. David also believes in being "green"--by using antiques! Enjoy the pics from his website below!

This is the before shot with dowdy fabric and low to the ground accessories.

After shot with lighter fabrics, a beautiful gourd lamp on the side table and more life in the room (literally).

I love the fabric for the drapery here.

Same for the throw pillows.

I notice that he uses a lot of plants in his rooms which I really like.

The small painting next to the bed ads a real feeling of intimacy.

I believe this is from an apartment in Manhattan.

You know, I of course love these framed drawings over the sofa.

Double candles also keep popping up in his designs.

Designer Spotlight: Wick Design Group

In one of my favorite magazines, Western Interiors, I read about a designer Will Wick of Wick Design Group. So, obviously I googled him and found his website and portfolio. I found his interiors clean and calming but not necessarily simple. He is based in San Francisco and is very attractive...not that that has anything to do with his design. OR DOES IT?? www.wickdesigngroup.com

Here are my favorites slash interesting ones:

I like his use of primitive type woods with more refined materials. Oh yeah, and ZEBRA.

Amazing drift wood over the mantle but the shell in the fireplace scares me.

Zebra pillow! And I really like that LV trunk as a side table. Nice bookcase displays too.

Clean bathroom.

This was the image that caught my eye in the Western Interiors.

Clothing is framed on the wall. Interior design meets fashion? People are very enthusiastic about this trend but I'm not sure. What do we think?

On the website, there are items hand picked by Will Wick from his travels or otherwise. Check them out because there are some fabulous vintage pieces.
